If you frequent Active Handprint, chances are: you care about making the world a better place. Chances are: you are the type of person who is touched--maybe even haunted--by the suffering of others. Chances are: you are the type of person to want to take action.
I mean, hey, you're reading a blog about advocacy.
But even when our intentions are pure, good and worthy, sometimes our execution is flawed. Khalida Brohi, in her beautiful TED talk, discusses some of her failures and triumphs as she set out on her quest to protect women from honor killings.
Her genuine reflection, humility and growth are not only part of an incredible story but also par for the course of change.
ActiveHandprint Take-Aways:
--Failures are not endings, they are times for reflection, reinvention and retries
--Advocating to change laws or policies will not automatically change people's real-life experiences
--Strategies and planning sustain efforts
--The changes we advocate for often strike core values, be sensitive to this
--Building positive, respectful relationships is key
--Education is empowering
--Help people learn a craft, and you will help them be free
--Inspire those around you, and you can inspire a movement
--You are never too young, it is never too late, you are never too weak... you just have to start.
